Freemasonry unites men of different philosophical and religious beliefs, as well as those of different social and ethnic backgrounds. It is based on good moral character, charity, and a firm belief in the tenants of mankind. The process of becoming a member is divided into stages marked by three separate ceremonies, the symbolism of which is intended to strengthen a man’s commitment to his Faith, his family, and his community. Basically the intent is to make a good man better

Minimum Requirements.
  • Have been an Ohio resident for at least 6 months.
  • Are Male of at least 19 years of age.
  • Have a belief in a Supreme Being.
  • Live a good moral and social life.
  • Do not advocate the overthrow of the government.
  • Can read and write English.
  • Are recommended by two members of the Lodge that you wish to join.*
    *If you do not know two members of a Lodge, the secretary of the Lodge to which you are applying can arrange a meeting with two members of the Lodge for you.
Obtaining a Petition

If you know a Member of Hiram Lodge No. 18, just ask him for a petition. If you do not know a member there, call the Lodge Secretary at (740) 363-4261 and he can arrange a meeting with two members of the Lodge for you.

The Process

The process for candidacy begins with a petition for membership. Once the petition is filled out and signed by two Master Masons of good standing of Hiram Lodge. The petition will be turned into the lodge Secretary along with the applicable fees, and read at the next meeting. An investigation committee will be appointed to meet with the you for an interview at your home. The investigation committee then will report back to the lodge with their recommendations concerning your petition, and at the next business meeting of the lodge, the lodge will vote to accept or reject, your petition. If for some reason your petition rejected your fees will be returned in full, and you will be excluded from petitioning a lodge for one year. On a favorable vote, the candidate will be contacted to begin the ceremonial stages of the membership process. The three degrees of Blue Lodge Masonry include the Entered Apprentice, Fellow Craft, and Master Mason.
