    Stanley D. Brechtel, Jr., 77, of Ostrander died Wednesday, October 28, 2015, at his home with his wife, children, and granddaughter by his side. He was born to Stanley D. Brechtel, Sr. and Hannah Catherine (Weaver) Brechtel in Columbus, OH, September 28, 1938.

    The family moved to Delaware County in 1947 and Stanley graduated from Scioto Valley High School in 1956. As a student, he participated in the Civil Air Patrol and the Civil Air Patrol International Program and was a cadet exchange student to Portugal.

    Stanley was a four and a half year veteran of the U.S. Air Force working as a jet engine mechanic. He graduated from the Ohio College of Applied Science in Cincinnati. Stanley also graduated from Franklin University with a B.S. degree in Industrial Management.

    He retired from The Ohio State University as a carpenter/maintenance specialist.
    Continuous learning was paramount to Stanley as he always strove to learn new things. His last advice to his children was to, “Always keep learning. Learn as much as you can.”

    Stanley was an avid wood worker in all phases of woodworking, cabinet making, trim carpentry, and lathe work. He donated many handcrafted toys to auctions benefiting children in need, as well as organizations feeding the homeless.

    He was an avid OSU football and basketball fan, as well as a fan of Bluegrass music. Stanley was a 50-year member of the Masonic Lodge. He was past master of Ostrander 594 and past master of Hiram 18. He was past Illustrious Master of Sidney Moore Council #84 and was a member of Delaware Chapter #54.

    Stanley was married to Marie (Dotson) Brechtel for 41 years. They had a son Jason and a daughter Danielle Jumper (Mike) and one granddaughter Evelyse, whom he adored. His brother Leland (Linda) lives in Arizona and he is survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

    Memorial contributions may be made in Stan’s name to the Central Ohio Diabetes Association, 1100 Dennison Ave., Columbus, OH 43201.

    Visitation will be Sunday, November 1, from 2-4PM at Robinson Funeral Home. A Masonic Service will be held on Sunday at 4:00PM at the funeral home following visitation.

    The funeral Service will be Monday, November 2, beginning at 11:00AM at Robinson Funeral Home with Pastor Wayne Engle officiating.

    Burial will follow the service at Fairview Cemetery in Ostrander where full military honors will be presented by the Delaware County Veterans Association.

  • The Passing of the Wife of Brother Dorman Stein

    Jane Brundige Stein 89, of Waldo, died Monday, March 9, 2015 in the Arbors of Delaware. She was born August 28, 1925 in Delaware to Jack and Etta (Cameron) Brundige. She graduated from Ohio University and was a teacher in the Marion City Schools for 34 years. She enjoyed many summers in Colorado. She was a member of many organizations including O.E.S., D.A.R., Colonial Dames, Delaware Co. Pioneers and Daughters of Founders and Patriots of America.

    She is survived by her husband Dorman, a cousin, Jay Roberts of Waldo, a nephew, George Stevens of Dublin and good neighbors Connie and Amos Price of Waldo.

    Visitation will be Thursday from 5 to 7pm at the Robinson Funeral Home where O.E.S. services will be held at 7pm. Burial will be Friday in the Mayfield Cemetery.

  • The Passing of Brother James Ward

    Former Delaware County Commissioner James David Ward, 76, passed away Saturday morning February 28, 2015 at the Delaware Court Health Care Center.
    He was born January 24, 1939 in Tacoma Park, Maryland to the late Verle Strong Ward and Marjorie (Bell) Ward.

    Jim graduated from Olentangy High School and then served his country as a member of the United States Air Force for 4 years. He later retired after 25 years as a trooper with the State of Ohio Highway Patrol, serving in Toledo and Delaware. He also received the Trooper of the Year Award in 1973. He then continued to serve the Delaware County community as a commissioner for 12 years.

    Jim was a member of the Delaware Bible Church, VFW Post #3297, and former Elks Lodge #76, all of Delaware. He always had a love for cars and followed that passion by owning and operating Edge Motor Sales in Ashley and he was also an avid Ohio State Buckeye fan. He also was a former scoutmaster for Troop #108 in Delaware when his sons were young.

    Left to cherish his memory are his sons David, Jason and Aaron Ward, all of Delaware and Jimmy (Matilda) Ward, who is following in his father’s footsteps and is currently serving his country as a member of the United States Air Force in Germany; two grandchildren Nathaniel and Sarah; sisters Barbara Barrows of Delaware and Priscilla Jo Hicks of Missouri; several nieces and nephews.

    The family will receive friends on Thursday March 5th from 4 – 8 pm at the Snyder-Rodman Funeral Center, 1510 W. William Street at Valleyside Drive, Delaware and where funeral services will be held on Friday March 6th at 11:00 am. Burial will follow in Green Mound Cemetery in Kilbourne with military honors conducted at graveside.

  • Wives and Widows Day Trip

    NutCrackerFor this Day trip we are going to go see the Nutcracker Ballet at the Ohio Theatre!
    on Sunday, December 21st

    The bus will leave the Lodge at 11:30 am on Sunday the 21st and travel to the Ohio Theatre via coach, to Downtown Columbus for a 1pm-3pm matinee of the Nutcracker Ballet.

    Then we will get back on the buss and travel to the J Liu Restaurant at 6880 N High Street in Worthington, for an early dinner , with an estimated return time to the lodge of 6:30 pm.

    There is No cost to Widows, Members and thier spouses for this event, however any member who signs up and does not show will need to reimburse the lodge for their expenses (illness and other emergencies excepted)
